Obituary for Geraldine L. Kinsman

On Saturday, May 5, 2018 Geraldine L. Kinsman, 85, losing her long fight with Alzheimer’s has joined her lifelong love. As she made her journey to Heaven, her children and some of her grandchildren serenaded her with songs, shared memories, and showered her with an abundance of love. With tears in our eyes and praise in our hearts, we mourn our loss & yet are joyful as they are hand and hand again, bodies’ whole, in their eternal home.

Gerri, Sis, as her father lovingly called her, was born to Charles and Marie Lemons on August 21, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan. She grew up in Highland Park after graduating from high school a close friend invited her to go to church, State Fair Church of God. There she met her soulmate, Harvey Kinsman.

The two fell in love and despite their parent’s protest, felt God had brought them together and decided they could not live without each other. So in October 1952 off they went to Mississippi and on the 25th in Iuka, they were married, & so their story began. The lord blessed them with five children and 65 years together.

Gerri was a stay at home Mom until her children were in school, the family was growing out of their family home. She got a part time job to help put an addition on. While raising their children she had many roles like many moms. She was active at the children’s school as room mother, helping at functions and serving on the PTA. Later she worked at the church they attended, Woodlawn Church of God, a Sunday School teacher, chaperoning the youth group, and would serve as the superintendent of the beginner’s department.

Gerri was a devoted wife and mother, she preferred the simple things, she loved getting together with family and friends for a game of cards or dominoes. She was an avid reader and always had a book in hand. She loved camping and time spent outdoors in her garden.

We have chosen the flower, the Forget Me Not; a lasting symbol of remembrance, the icon the Alzheimer’s Society uses to raise awareness for the disease. It is a simple yet sturdy flower a great symbol of Geraldine. Some of its meanings describe her and her life well.

*True and undying love
*A connection that lasts through time
*Fidelity and loyalty in a relationship, despite challenges
*Caring for others

So let the Forget Me Not remind you, take the time to remember those you love, even if they are still with you right now. Make memories that last and extend your caring to those that need it the most. Respect the dead and make sure their stories are still being told to future generations.

Geraldine is survived by her children Kathy (and the late Steve) Langsdale, David (Judy) Kinsman, Vicky (Tim) Langsdale, Linda (Rick) Gunderson, and Carolyn Kinsman; 20 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Robert (Barbara) Kinsman, two sister-in-law’s, Naoma (Frank) Zimmanck and Dorcas (Harold) Mertes. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Kinsman (March 2, 2018), her parents Charles and Marie, and her brother Charles Lemons.
