Obituary for William "Bill" Henry Witte

William “Bill” Henry Witte of Whitmore Lake, formerly of Royal Oak, passed away on March 2, 2018 at the age of 65. Bill was the beloved husband of Donna Lynn and son of Narene Witte. Bill had been a long time resident of Royal Oak and attended Royal Oak Schools (Dondero). He went on to earn his B.A. in Criminal Justice at Wayne State University.

Bill was a man with a long history in law enforcement and public service. His early professional career was spent working for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac followed by the Wixom and South Lyon Police Departments. However, Bill’s real professional pride was the many years he spent as a member of the Clawson Police department, from where he retired.

In addition to his years in active police service, Bill had various other personal and civic involvements: working with the Royal Oak Jaycees, hunting (and eating) with the I.S.P.A.N.S. in Ferndale, and racing cars with his friends in Waterford. Of course, anyone who knew Bill would also tell you he was a passionate dog-lover.

However, Bill’s top priority was always his family and friends. Bill was a very involved son, brother and uncle; he created an enduring network of friends scattered all over the country. Bill was a “Confirmed Bachelor” for many years; a title those who knew him were sure would be permanent. That is, until Donna found her way back into his life. The two were joyfully married on August 14, 2013. These years with Donna were the happiest of his life.

Bill is survived by his wife Donna; his step-daughter Stephanie Zacharias; his mother Narene Witte; his siblings Patti (Tim) Louden and Kerry Kelley; his brother-in-law Paul Straith; and seven nieces: Tracey Straith (Kevin Wendland), Lesley Straith (Kathleen Erz), Jennifer (Brian) Vick, Kelly (Michael) Polasek, Julie Roy, Ashley Louden, and Ericka Louden. Bill was also the great-uncle to four great-nephews and three great-nieces. His father, Marvin and his sister, Lenore (nee Witte) Straith preceded Bill in death.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held during visitation Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 3:00-8:00pm at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main Street, Clawson, MI 48017. The funeral service will also be held at Gramer Funeral Home In Clawson on Wednesday, March 7 at 11:00am.
