Obituary for Richard W. Loeffler

Richard W. Loeffler, a long-time resident of Royal Oak, Michigan, for over 50 years, passed away April 13, 2018, at the age of 84.

Richard was born to parents John and Frances (maiden name: Weaver) on May 27, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit and was a very proud veteran of the United States Army. He married Sharon Ann on August 7, 1964, in Ferndale, Michigan. Richard worked at various small machine shops, Fisher Body and Cargill Detroit Corporation in Clawson, Michigan, as a Tool, Die and Machine Designer. He eventually retired from Cargill after more than 20 years of service.

Richard enjoyed wood working, reading, crossword puzzles, the Detroit Red Wings and traveling. Most of all, he was happiest when he spent time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Family was most important. Richard enjoyed special times with his grandchildren. He read Left Foot Right Foot to his oldest granddaughter, Kayla, until the book fell apart. He went to many hockey games cheering on his oldest grandson, Eric. He watched his granddaughter, MacKenzie, dance in many dance performances. He cheered on his grandsons, Ryan and Austin, at wrestling matches and baseball games. He was so proud when Austin invited him to his grade school for a special program honoring veterans on Veterans Day. He was extremely excited to be at the airport the day his youngest grandson, William, was brought home from Russia and to complete The Loeffler Family.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, and his children, Joann (Joe) Cobb, Elaine (Kirk) Hartigan, Karl (Christine) Loeffler and Julie (Scott) Sebesta, as well as his six grandchildren: Kayla, Eric, MacKenzie, Ryan, Austin and William.
