Patricia Katherine McCurry “ Pat,” 91 of Sterling Heights and Clawson, passed away on May 4, 2017 in Troy, Michigan. She was born on November 13, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to Theodore and Anne Meyer. Devoted wife of, the late James P. McCurry (April 14, 1991) The couple married on August 31, 1947 at St. James Catholic Church in Ferndale, Michigan. Dear mother of, Kevin (Kathryn) McCurry, Kerin (Bill) Dorris, Marianne (Tony) Argenta, Loving sister and best friend of Maureen Degenhardt (Ted “Bud”), Grandmother of, Patrick (SunJung) McCurry, Tim (Jennifer) McCurry, Kate (Court Whitinger) Dorris, Brandon (Jaquelyn) Dorris, A.J. and Andrew Argenta, Great Grandmother of, Erin, Jane, Megan and Emily McCurry and Grant and Parker Dorris. She is preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, Theodore and Anne and a brother, John “Jerry” Meyer.

She attended the St. James High School in Ferndale, was employed as a secretary at Fisher Body from 1943-1949 and then worked at the service desk at K-Mart from 1969-1984. Pat was a lifelong athlete. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, baseball, walking and exercising.  Pats athletic abilities were quite impressive. She started playing baseball and basketball in high school and remained physically active throughout her life. She played semi pro softball in the 1940’s, as portrayed in the movie, “A League of Their Own.” Until very recently, you could find her playing baseball in the yard with her grandchildren. She would be teaching them the “correct” way to throw a ball. She was on a golf league through last season.

Pat was a devout Catholic with a particular devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was very active at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, where she had been a member since 1947. She belonged to the Altar Society, counted money and was an Eucharistic Minister. For the past 25 years, she also supported Fr. M. Mullanmada, a priest running a Catholic orphanage in India.

Pat was a beautiful person, devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She could never do enough to help others and never found a bad word to say about anybody. She enjoyed time up north surrounded by family, where she was the life of the party and a gracious hostess. She was a true Irishman and could tell the best stories and jokes.

Funeral Information

Memorial Gathering will take place on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 2-8 P.M. at Gramer Funeral Home, Clawson.

Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Clawson.

 

Donations Information

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, the family is accepting donations to purchase a chalice for Fr. Mullanmada in India. This was Pats next goal for helping Fr. Matt Checks can be payable to Kerin Dorris.
