Online Obituaries for the Clawson, Michigan

Alan William "Bill" Wentz, 78, of Clawson and beloved teacher for the Clawson Schools died August 20, 2013.

Bill is survived by his sister Marcia Roth. Also his three nephews, Mark, Steve and Jeff.

Bill grew up on the grounds of Cranbrook as a child and attended Birmingham schools graduating in the Class of '52 Birmingham High (now Seaholm). Bill served in the army of the Korean War and ROTC for 9 years. A Michigan State and Florida State graduate, he was an engineer before he started teaching.

His passion was teaching 7th and 8th grade students. He stayed at that level of education, because he felt he had a better impact on his students. Bill taught in the Clawson School District for over 45 years.

After retiring from teaching, Bill continued to tutor students. He was the VOICE of the Trojans football games and donated time and money to the Athletic Boosters. He loved Michigan State sports and was a member of the Michigan State Alumni Association. The Michigan Humane Society was close to his heart and he loved the Arts (plays, concerts and theater). Bill LOVED his music! Being a huge Tiger fan, he loved sitting around talking baseball with Bob Kavanaugh, Bill Zak and Brian Woltman. He especially enjoyed the company of his friend, Mrs. Penny and always spoke very highly of her.

Bill always bragged about having 5,000 children; although he never had any himself. Bill kept in touch with his former students and their children; always remembering their interests and passions. He also had high praise for his doctor, Dr. Steve McClelland, a former student of Mr. Wentz.

Mr. Wentz was proud of ALL his students and their life paths. He had the GIFT to accept people for who they were. That is why he is so adored by his students...........his unconditional Love! The one thing that continued through his life was his Passion for People.

Paul Gramer and his staff were responsible for making my father’s funeral exactly as my mother wanted it. They were attentive to our every need. Their support was a source of great comfort at this difficult time.
