Mary Ann Tuschak of Detroit and formerly of Petoskey died Sunday January 22 at St. Johns-Providence Hospital in Southfield surrounded by her family after a short illness. She was born March 27, 1953 to Mary Richmond and George Tuschak in Detroit and attended St. Veronica Grade School in East Detroit. She graduated from Regina High School in 1971 and obtained her Masters of Social Work from Wayne State University in 1977. She worked in counseling positions in Detroit until moving to Petoskey in 1979. She was on staff at Northern Counseling Center and eventually starting her own private practice. She assisted numerous families with her social work and counseling and being an expert witness. Mary Ann had a gift of reaching out to and gaining the trust and confidence of children who she defended and guided through their challenges. She was a proud loving and devoted mother to her son Matthew Bondy, an actor living in New York City and daughter Caelye Favorite who resides in Ann Arbor. She is the sister to Cathie Robertson, Barbara Austin, Gail Eckstein and George Tuschak. Despite facing many medical challenges in recent years, she kept her friendly, outgoing nature and will always be remembered for her smile, her laugh, her love of rock and roll music and dancing and her outgoing and fun disposition. Her home was always open to her friends and was often filled with the friends of her children. A memorial service will be held Thursday January 26 in Shelby Township and next summer in Petoskey where burial will take place. Memorial gifts can be sent to a charity of choice.
