Online Obituaries for the Troy, Royal Oak, Clawson & Shelby Township MI Area

Lorena Essie Harris, age 94, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, Robert, on October 15, 2017 in Port Huron, Michigan. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Harry and Inez (Mitchell) Davis. She married Rev. Dr. Robert Kennenth Harris on June 6, 1952 in Flat Rock, Michigan. Together they pastored Utica Evangelistic Center in Sterling Heights for many years. He predeceased her on January 5, 2004. She is survived by her children, Rev. Verne (Debbie) Harris, Dean (Julie) Harris, and Rev. Lanny (Sue) Harris as well as 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her twin sister, Eleanor Stewart, and her brothers, Don, Calvin, Charles and Howard Davis.

"Her favorite hobby was Bob (her husband, our Dad). Every guy’s dream is to have a girl that thinks of him like she did Dad. She was a fantastic cook and baker. Her Tuna Noodle Casserole was second to none, and she made Christmas cookies, and fruitcake, and English Christmas pudding the memories of which still dance in our heads. She loved to sew. She was an incredible seemstress. When Mom and Dad were first married she sewed her own clothes because they didn’t have much money, but as time went on, she sewed because she was good at it. I don’t think there was anything she couldn’t make. She made many of her own dresses, and she always looked like a million bucks. She sewed shirts, and sport coats for Dad and us boys. She actually took tailoring classes at the local high school. She also went to the high school with Loraine Brower, Ruth Burg, Elaine Schiller and some of the other ladies from the church and took swimming lessons. She was quite proud of the fact that at 45 years of age she learned to swim. She was a great entertainer. Dad being a pastor, would sometimes bring home not only guest speakers, but other folks and we would have a house full. Mom would put on a spread, with fancy dishes and all the trimmings, and really great food. It was incredible. You didn’t want to miss one of those. She was so unassuming that I am sure she had no idea how intimidating she was to many of the other pastor’s wives. Brother Nunes use to come to speak for Dad, but I think he came just for Mom’s Pineapple Nut Bread. She had to make it every time he came. It really was good by the way. Besides all of that stuff, she was a wonderful Mom. I forgot to tell you that her other “favorite hobby” besides Dad, was her three boys. Sometimes her love and care went from mothering to smothering, but looking back on it, that wasn’t so bad. Thanks Mom, love you, see you again soon."

The staff and facilities at Gramer were absolutely the best. Their heartfelt compassion & dedication were obvious. We couldn’t have asked for better care than we received. Brooke even had her wedding the day after Dad’s funeral and the service still went perfectly. We highly recommend Gramer.
