Online Obituaries for the Troy, Royal Oak, Clawson & Shelby Township MI Area

Marie Theresa (Tamer) Joseph was born February 6, 1921 and went to be with the Lord, Tuesday November 28, 2017. She was the 8th of Josephine Mena and Albert (Aboud) Tamer’s 10 children. She was born in Detroit, and one of her favorite memories was receiving her first communion from the Blessed Fr. Solanus Casey at the historic Church of Sts. Peter and Paul.

She attended Eastern High School in Detroit, but did not actually graduate until 1976, when she graduated from Bedford Temperance high School, the same year as her son Tom! She bragged that she had a better GPA than all her children!

On September 27, 1941, Marie married Martin Joseph, and together they had 11 children. They were married for 32 years until the time of his sudden death in 1973. She remained a widow for 44 yrs until her death.

She moved her brood from Detroit to Temperance in 1967 where she was involved with the Boosters, and Lions Club, Her life was very busy trying to keep up with children that were athletes, musicians, and artists. When her children were young, having a family membership at the YMCA was her saving grace. At least twice a week the entire family went to ‘Family Open Gym and Swim’. It was important that all her children knew how to swim at an early age. In her spare time (hahaha) she was a self employed seamstress and dressmaker. Her treasured possession was her Singer sewing machine that her brother William bought her when she was 16, and she had it until the day she died.

As busy and crowded as the Joseph household was, there was always an open door, and refrigerator policy. Her motto, ‘there is always room for one more’, which there often was throughout her life. She was Mom or Grandma to everyone that knew her.

When her children all graduated high school and college, Marie moved to the Metro Detroit area to live with some of her children. She was very involved with her churches, St. Thomas Moore, and later, the Shrine of the Little Flower. She kept busy at all the activities at The Troy Community Center and the senior group at St. Alan in Troy. She took painting classes, crocheted, bowled, played Bunko, and later Pinochle. But none of these compared to her love of Scrabble! As a voracious reader, she was able to come up with great words that always guaranteed her a victory!

Mom was a prayer warrior that attended mass and said the rosary almost every day. There is a good chance that if you are reading this, she has prayed for you at one time or another!

Always the pride and joy of her life were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; Veronica (Juan) Deleon, William John, Martin Jr. (Kathleen), Agnes (Wayne) Langscheid, Paul, Margaret (James) Hunter, Thomas (Vicki), Charles (Barbara), Richard (Robin), Mary Anne, Rebecca.

22 Grandchildren; Matthew (Andrea) Potter, Michael (Becky) Joseph, Michelle (George) Nihem, David (Sondra) Rader, Aaron (Sarah) Joseph, Becky (Mike) Martinez, Beth (Adam) Bisbee, James (Heather) Hunter, Leah Hunter, Alexander (Tiffany) Joseph, Rachel Joseph, Charlie Joseph, Eli Joseph, Luke Joseph, Greg (Carrie) Joseph, Holly (Grant) Flewwelling, Justin Joseph, Phillip (Anna) Joseph, Emily (Kyle) Parker, Isaac (Monica) Joseph, Chelsea (Scott) Lamirand, Taylor (Ryan) Victor. And 28 Great Grandchildren

Marie is predeceased by her husband Martin and her son William John (Billy) Joseph.

The staff and facilities at Gramer were absolutely the best. Their heartfelt compassion & dedication were obvious. We couldn’t have asked for better care than we received. Brooke even had her wedding the day after Dad’s funeral and the service still went perfectly. We highly recommend Gramer.
